About Me

I have a master's degree in journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I live in Missoula, MT and write about the harrowing, lonely experience of withdrawing from benzodiazepines.

I am so intrigued with your article - clearing your name, you speak on behalf of so many of us, including myself. In fact, I'd just spent the last two days frantically trying to relocate it on my computer. You are nowhere near just an ordinary person, you have a degree in journalism. This gives you front row seat to effectively write your story. And I want to read more if I can. I wanted to further communicate with you however, the email link you left doesn't work on my computer.

Hi Sandy,

Thanks for your note. My situation has gotten worse since my last post. I had been two years off benzos and was only on 25mg of Paxil (which I had been on for 15 years). I convinced myself it couldn't be as bad as benzo withdrawal. But it was. I was hospitalized and went through a whole lot of crap. Eventually, when I was released, I was no better but my only choice was to keep going to work and try to hope I would stabilize. Just enduring a day, with extreme akathesia, was a torturous ordeal. So I felt like my back was against the wall and I made the decision to re-instate benzos. At first, it was like I was back to normal, but have had many ups and downs since. So I don't feel like a good messenger anymore. I feel defeated. I don't know if I'll ever get better. You're certainly welcome to email me, but I think my days of blogging about this, for now, are over. My email: yablonowitz@gmail.com.

Join global leaders in the critical psychiatry movement for a one-day conference which will address an urgent public health issue: the harm caused by the over-prescription of psychiatric medications. For more information please go to cepuk.org/moreharmthangood.

If your not so sick of psychiatry right now, this Conference is pretty amazing. And I hope your doing well.
